Science
At St Joseph's, we use the Kapow Science scheme because it provides a carefully sequenced curriculum that supports the progressive development of knowledge and skills. Pupils build both substantive knowledge, including key scientific concepts, and disciplinary knowledge through scientific enquiry, investigation and the evaluation of evidence. The curriculum encourages children to ask questions, think critically and apply their learning to real-world issues, including sustainability. Embedded scaffolds, strong links to maths and literacy, and regular opportunities for retrieval and assessment ensure that all pupils can access and succeed in science.
We are committed to making science engaging, relevant and enjoyable for every child. Practical, hands-on learning experiences are central to our approach, enabling pupils to explore scientific concepts through investigation and experimentation. By fostering curiosity and encouraging active participation, we help children develop a deeper understanding of the world around them and an appreciation of the role science plays in everyday life. Please see the Knowledge Organisers at the bottom of this page for the scientific topics children are learning in the first half of the autumn term.
