Pastoral Care
At St Joeph's Catholic Primary School we want everyone involved with our school to feel well supported. We believe that good pastoral support focuses on nurturing the individual needs of each child. We aim to build trusting and empathic relationships with all our pupils and their families. Together our team works with children so they can lead fulfilling and balanced lives at school and beyond.
All our staff model to pupils how to look after themselves and others; encouraging them to seek help, support or advice whenever they need it.
Pastoral care underpins personal development and we know from experience that with outstanding pastoral care, children feel they belong and their self-esteem is able to flourish because they feel valued and cared for.
Supporting the pastoral needs of pupils sometimes involves working with external agencies. In these situations we ensure that a confidential, professional, non-judgemental and sensitive service is provided.

Wellbeing
Wellbeing is an important factor in our community. Our wellbeing team, as well as our Primary Leadership team, play a part in showcasing different themes, each designed to help the wellbeing of everyone in our community. Since 2021 Their work has included:
- Implementing a PSHE curriculum based on three core themes – health and wellbeing, relationships and
living in the wider world. - Introducing the St Joseph’s Core Values and the Wheel of Wellbeing: Empathy, Respect, Resilience, Ambition, Adaptability and Responsibility.
- Reintroducing The Daily Mile and launching a whole school exercise programme.
- Raising money for Young Minds – a charity focusing on the wellbeing of children and young adults
You can see our Behaviour for Learning and Relationships Policy here.
The Wheel of Wellbeing, or WOW, focuses on six key themes.
- Body – being active and keeping healthy.
- Mind – promoting life-long learning and being open to trying new things.
- Spirit – looking out for others, practising random acts of kindness, giving thanks.
- People – connecting with others.
- Place – savouring our surroundings.
- Planet – looking after our planet.
